Available Birds

Chilipepper

Full of spice and personality, Chilipepper definitely lives up to his name! His feather destructive behavior is fairly recent, so it is unclear whether his feathers will grow back over time or if his feather follicles are permanently damaged.

Either way, he is a handsome bird, and he has been doing really well in his foster home. He loves eating vegetables, and he cleans his bowl of chop every morning.

He is still learning to trust humans, so his forever family must be willing to take the bonding process slowly and give him the time he needs to warm up.

In his own time, he opens up and shows his affectionate side. If you are familiar with macaw body language and are willing to go at his pace, you will have a friend in Chilipepper for life.

Lux

Lux is a sweet and spicy cockatiel who loves both other birds and people. He is our smallest Virginia bird.

Lux would do best in a home with other small birds, especially other cockatiels.

He is goofy and interactive and loves to be part of the action around the house. If you are chopping up veggies for dinner, Lux wants to be right there on the counter or cruising around on your shoulder.

Cockatiels are sexually dimorphic, and his coloring indicates that he is male, so if you do have other cockatiels in the home, keep in mind gender dynamics.

7 year old Cockatiel, male

Squeaker and Beaker

Squeaker (regular beak) and Beaker (overgrown beak) are a pair of bonded Greencheek Conures that are bright, curious, and interested in everything going on around the house.

They both love splashing around in a shallow dish of water, snacking on nuts, and flying together.

Squeaker and Beaker have been responding well to training at their foster home, and their forever home will need to continue offering them positive reinforcement for interacting with people. They are not handtame, so they require a patient home willing to help them open up in their own time.

If you are looking for an extra dose of cuteness and have the time to put into helping them feel safe and building their confidence, Squeaker and Beaker could be a perfect addition to your family.

Grumbles

Your search for your new best friend is over! Grumbles is a super handleable, curious, and sweet bird who wants to be your full-time sidekick.

He will fly to your hand, perch on your shoulder (or on top of your head!), and happily take a snack from your fingers.

Grumbles loves being with his people, and he is used to having free reign around the house. He’s happiest being out of the cage and keeping busy foraging, training, playing with toys, or just hanging out and preening your face.

Grumbles has a medical condition that make him a special case. He has Avian Bornavirus (ABV+) which causes occasional seizures and gastrointestinal issues. He takes a daily oral medication, and the vet said that he can eventually take his meds only when he has a flare-up. ‍

Grumbles’ perfect forever family would have plenty of time to spend with him and be okay with his medical routine. It’s important with an ABV+ bird to have a good relationship with your veterinarian and make adjustments to your bird’s diet and environment to reduce stress and promote good digestion. ‍

9 year old Quaker

Coco and Puff

Coco (blue) and Puff (green) are the very best of friends, and they would love to find a home together.

They came from an original owner who never handled them and likely intended to breed them alongside multiple other species. For years, Coco and Puff only had each other and would hide in the back of their cage far away from people.

Since they started hand-taming training in March 2026 with their foster home, they have learned how to be birds again and now spend their days flying around the house, foraging, and getting into trouble (often at the verrrry top of the vaulted ceiling on the light fixture).

While they are still warming up to people, they will now eat dinner on their foster mom’s lap and take treats from her fingers.

If you have the patience to go at their pace and love them as a package deal, Coco and Puff can add so much warmth and activity to your home.

UPDATE: Puff had an old injury, and her body cut off blood flow to her beak. Her beak then fell off on September 15, 2026. She is now adjusting to her new diet and lifestyle.

SUCCESS STORIES

Scooter, male Eclectus

Scooter took some time to warm up at his foster home, but once he was comfortable, he really surprised everyone. The bird that spent most of his time quietly hanging out by the window, attended one of our warehouse free flight events and flew for the very first time after watching some of the other birds!

Since then, his confidence has grown so much. He now flies around his forever family’s home and has even inspired the love birds in the house to engage more. It is amazing to see how far he has come and how much he has grown since being adopted through Ohio Free Flight.

Sunny, male Black Capped Conure

Sunny is a little bird that stole everyone's hearts the moment he came into the rescue. He is a cuddlebug, and we knew he would add so much to his forever family.

His new mom took her time finding the right bird, and we are so glad she did because Sunny is her perfect match. He now spends his days basking in love and attention, and their family is complete.

Pochy, male Blue and Gold Macaw

Pochy is a perfect ambassador bird. He loves everyone he meets, and he is so sweet and easygoing. We knew that he needed a very special home.

His forever family had been searching for their next bird for several months, and they kept coming back to Pochy again and again. It was meant to be!

Now Pochy is settled with his new family and loves to sip on fresh carrot juice and spread his wings inside his new walk-in aviary. We are so glad he’s in a great home!

Darlin’, male Blue and Gold Macaw

Darlin’ came to us from a rough start. He survived a house fire that took the lives of several other parrots in the home and was not used to handling.

With a resilient spirit, he blossomed in his foster home, and when he met his forever family for the first time, he fit right in immediately! We were so proud of him when he stepped up for every family member and enjoyed some snacks.

His life is now full of love and thankfully fire-free.

Cindy, female Umbrella Cockatoo

Cindy started off in a home that fed her a poor diet and did not offer enrichment, so her time at the rescue was spent just learning how to be a bird and transitioning to healthier food options.

She has the sweetest disposition, and we knew the right family for her would continue to work on playing with toys, foraging, and target training.

Her new family has approached her care with so much patience, and we are happy to report that she has just recently started interacting with toys for the first time. We are so grateful that we connected with adopters willing to put in the work to rehabilitate this beautiful bird.

Willie, male Goffin’s Cockatoo

Willie is an exceptionally easy-going, cuddly bird, and he was just what his forever family was looking for. After losing their beloved parrot, the family was searching for a new feathered friend to shower with attention, and they immediately fell in love with Willie. We could tell from the first meeting that they were perfect for each other.

Now that he is their main squeeze, he spends his days meeting new people, enjoying car rides, and snuggling on the couch. We couldn’t be happier for both Willie and his forever family!

Sammie, female Greenwing Macaw

Sammie fell in love with her foster mom and ended up being our very first "foster fail." Her new family adores her, and it was clear she had found her forever home from day one.

We could not be happier for Sammie and her family, and we are so glad that we will continue to connect with them as their bond continues to grow.

Fred, male Greenwing Macaw

Fred is super friendly and always ready for a snack! We knew that he would add so much to his forever family, and the perfect home found us!

His new mom followed his story even before Fred made his big flight from Virginia to Ohio, and she fell in love with him immediately.

Now Fred is beyond spoiled in a huge 7’ walk-in aviary (which he absolutely deserves!) and a new Blue and Gold Macaw sibling. We know he is going to live the best life.

Poptart, male Blue Crowned Conure

Poptart is one of our Virginia birds, and we knew that he needed a home that would continue his handleability training through positive reinforcement. He loves training, and he is an excellent flyer.

His forever family met this challenge head on, and we can see that they are committed to providing the best possible care for this spunky bird.

We can’t wait to see a video of Poptart lying on his back on top of an open hand! We can see how loved he is, and we are so happy for the whole family.

Little Guy, male Moluccan Cockatoo

Easygoing 90% of the time with occasional zoomies that show his goofy personality, Little Guy was such a fun bird to have in the rescue, and we are so happy for him and his new family.

He now goes to the office with his owners and spends all day charming new people and enjoying his out of cage time. He has a great set up with plenty of perching and enrichment.

We hope to see him burst out his silly side again soon as he bonds with his forever family.

in memoriam

Zoey, female Greenwing Macaw

Zoey was a 31-year-old Greenwing Macaw with a bright spirit and loving demeanor. She bopped her head to music, learned new skills quickly in exchange for her favorite almond slices, and lent her trust easily.

She passed away in September 2026 due to medical complications.

Zoey was loved by so many people, and she will forever be remembered. RIP Zoey.
